Just a bit smarter than a chino, just a bit easier than trousers.

These chino trousers for men are cut like trousers and wear like a chino. The leg falls straight from the hip and tapers from the knee, finishing narrow without pulling anywhere. A crease runs the full length down the front, and it's exactly that detail that lifts the trousers out of the casual corner.

The hem stops at ankle length, just above the ankle bone. That means the leg sits neatly over a low trainer or a loafer, with no need to roll anything up. The fabric is a fine, densely woven twill with a matte look: smooth enough to fall nicely, sturdy enough to hold the crease.

How to wear it

Black, blue and grey are the three that go with everything. With a white T-shirt and white trainers it's a polished look for weekdays, and with a shirt and smart lace-up shoes it can go to the office or to a wedding. The crease does most of the work there.

Green and burgundy are the two that show a bit more. They work best with plain tops in white, beige or navy, so that the colour of the trousers stays the focal point. Light grey is the lightest of the six and comes into its own in spring and summer. You'll find more styles in our men's trousers.

Size and fit

The fit is slim fit, but not tight: roomy enough over the thigh, narrow from the knee down. If in doubt between two sizes, choose the larger of the two, that advice is also in the size chart itself.

The size chart on this page shows the waist, hip width and total length in centimetres for each size, from 82 cm waist at size S to 106 cm at 3XL, with a trouser length ranging from 100 to 110 cm. Measure a pair of trousers that fits you well and compare those measurements to the chart, that works more accurately than going by your usual size. Pay particular attention to the length, as the trousers are deliberately finished at ankle length.

Care

Wash the trousers inside out at a maximum of 30 degrees, together with clothing in a similar colour, and don't use bleach. Let them air dry instead of using the tumble dryer, so the leg keeps its shape nicely. Then iron the crease back in at a moderate temperature, ideally with a thin cloth in between so the fabric doesn't get shiny.
